I added a pair of PreSonus PM-2 mics to my setup as an affordable overhead mic option for tracking acoustic drums. They are small (normal for this type of mic) and lightweight which is helpful when you’re trying to balance and hold them on a boom mic stand without tipping over.
These also double as great instrument mics. The condenser nature makes them more sensitive than dynamic mics, which is helpful for capturing the nuances of acoustic guitars, for example.
At around $130 for the pair (before any discounts), they fall into what I consider the budget category of condenser mics. Their all metal build, however, looks and feels high end. As an entry level recording engineer (of sorts) I find their performance to be quite satisfactory for my purposes.
