Massive Hot Dog Recall @ KC’s Nashville Nights 2023

Categories:

I love horns in music. I love high energy performances. I like inuendo in my diet. Like, holy crap, have you seen Massive Hot Dog Recall in action? This is a horny band with hard rockin’ blues tucked under the hood.

Singer and trombone player Al Mothersbaugh brings chaotic energy and crisp horn playing. His horn section, consisting of “Dirty” Dan Flowers on tenor sax, Scotty Ganyard on trumpet, Paul “Bez” Bezbatchenko on baritone sax, and Uriah “The Kid” Calhoun on bass trombone, brings such a satisfying wall of sound to the band’s originals, Devo covers, and Xtra Crispy classics.

John Gmerek on guitar, Tony Rockich on drums, and Jerry Principe on bass and vocals have played the blues together in Xtra Crispy for over a decade before joining Al and company. They’re now an integral part of Massive Hot Dog Recall’s signature sound. The three of them sound excellent together and as a part of the Hot Dog band.

Massive Hot Dog Recall has quickly become one of my favorite live bands. The combination of horns, the blues rock accompaniment, crafty lyrics, and high energy make for a great show.
