About

This focus on local music started as a hobby project in 2011 with a Canon camcorder, a Sony DSLR, and a pair of battery powered Realistic condenser mics. We used these to record videos of our first local band, Lo-Watt Radio. By Spring of 2012 we started our current YouTube channel. That’s also when we adopted the name “goodsoundwaves” based on the title of a mixtape my big brother made for me back in the early 1990s.

This setup stayed largely unchanged for the next decade as the goodsoundwaves idea stood by, largely inactive, with me only occasionally photographing a band, and even less frequently recording video of a performance.

In 2018, shortly after being informed I was “whistling off-key” by my oldest, I began to try out home recording and learning the production side of music. This led to the creation of a home recording studio. That led to the development of the goodsoundwaves Podcast.

As this contemporary period of goodsoundwaves was getting underway, my son, Nick, designed what was to become my first tattoo and our company’s logo, which I affectionately call the “Brass Clef”.

By 2020 we had our first multitrack mixer/recorder, a Tascam Model 16. After some hands-on experience, by the Spring of 2021, we were ready to try tracking friends. This is where Smokin’ Joe Rodak and Julio Guidone particularly proved invaluable, with them providing material to record and mix in the home studio.

In the Fall of 2022 we started recording and editing multicamera video. We used a collection of Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel cell phone cameras while capturing multitrack audio with that Tascam mixer.

In 2025 we upgraded to a PreSonus StudioLive Series III 32SC digital mixer with a 32 channel network stage box. We also started shooting video with OBSBOT Tail 2 PTZ production cameras. As the year came to a close we became a small business.

What do we do?

  • We run live sound (have mixer, will travel)
  • We record audio & video of performances
  • We track, edit, and mix audio for artist projects

In addition to our premium services, we offer a limited number of free SESSIONS performance videos each year. For these, we record your original songs in the studio or another selected location, such as the artist’s home or rehearsal space.
